Letter written from James S. Bassett to Arthur Henry Bassett in Tacoma,
Washington from Omaha Nebraska, Jan 1926
Dear cousin,
Somewhat late in answering but better late than never. My father had no
children by his first wife. My mother was born 10 Dec 1826 in Ringe, New
Hampshire and died in Cameron Missouri. I was married in Muscatine Iowa on Dec
30th 1874. My wife's name was Kate F. Fesler daughter of Mr. Wm Fesler and
Mrs. Rebecca Fesler of Muscatine, Iowa. My wife is still living. My son Harry
Bassett married Miss Rose Busse in Waterloo Iowa Sept. 26, 1905. My daughter
was born in Cameron Mo Aug 30 1877. My son was born in Cameron MO Jan. 30,
1879. This I believe answers all questions you mentioned. I moved to Omaha
last April and expect to remain here the rest of my days. We are living with
my daughter and her husband and I are engaged in the Lubrigating Oil business.
I am a Knight Templar and a Life Member of El Kahir Temple (Shrine) having
been a member now 21 years. I sure would be much pleased to meet you. My
grandfather Isaac Bassett as I understand it from my father and as I knew him
as a boy was a very active man and died at the age of 96 in Boston Mass. I
must take after them to a certain extent as I am almost 76 and have charge of
our Warehouse and am a very busy man every day. And I feel better this fall
than I have felt for years. Hoping that we may meet some time in the ne
