Jacob Matthew Bass
Age 75, died Sunday, May 28, 2006 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill after an extended illness. Prior to his hospitalization, Mr. Bass resided with his wife of 46 years, Joan (Conrey) Bass, at The Village at Brookwood in Burlington, NC. Born in Kirkwood, Missouri, he graduated from Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri and served in the Navy during the Korean War. Working in the automotive industry throughout his career, Jake retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1989, and relocated to North Carolina. He enjoyed living at Fearrington Village in Pittsboro for 15 years, during which he was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church. Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, his son Andrew, daughter-in-law Catherine, and granddaughters Sarah and Emily of Holland, Michigan. Also surviving is his sister Barbara Truax and her husband Jerry of Ballwin, Missouri, as well as other cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday afternoon, June 1, at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Christ U.M. Church, 800 Market St., Chapel Hill, NC 27615.
