- Noah Omer Bassett, son of Isaac Newton and Frances (Cullers) Bassett, was born 23 Jul 1884 in Grangeville, Newton County, Missouri. He died 15 Feb 1959 in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. He married Ida Alice Barnett. She was born in 1886. She died in 1961.
He moved to the Oklahoma Territory in 1906 to get in on the land rush. He drove a rope wagon in the oil fields. Fern was born there. They moved back to Missouri after about two years. They bought the Dixon farm near Corsicana about 1909. They farmed wheat and other things. Ralph was born there. They traded the farm for a general store in Corsicana, Barry County, Missouri, in 1912. He was a grocer and ran the store until about 1921. They sold clothing, groceries, hardware, and farm equipment. Bad economic times following World War I forced them to go back to farming at a farm near Purdy. They raised apples, strawberries, and tomatoes for sale. They raised some livestock and pigs. They ran that farm until about 1925. Markets were poor and it was difficult to make it so Noah went to Girard, Kansas and got a job in a poultry house. He brought the family to Girard and eventually took over the Farmer's Union Store which was then name the N.O. Bassett Store. He owned the house at 440 S. Summit. It was a white wooden house on a corner with a porch going across the front and down one side. Noah owned a rental house to the east of the Summit Street house. He moved to Wichita in 1943 to be near family who had moved there. Noah worked at the Beech Aircraft plant. He moved back to Girard for a short time because of Ida's arthritus. He moved back to Wichita where he died. He is buried at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita, Kansas.
