January Wedding
Varney ? Basset
The most brilliant wedding of the season at Arlington was solemnized last evening, when Miss Ruth Basset, daughter of Mr. William Basset, was married to Edward B. Varney of this city. The ceremony was performed at the residence of the bride?s parents, 336 Mystic street, by the Rev. Newton Marshall Hall of Oneonta, N.Y., assisted by the Rev. Samuel C. Bushnell, pastor of the Pleasant street Congregational church, Arlington.
George H. Varney, brother of the groom, was best man. The bride wore white satin, trimmed with point lace, and a veil, with a wreath or orange blossoms.
After the ceremony, from 8 to 10 o?clock, a reception was held. The young couple were assisted in receiving by the bride?s parents, and also by the parents of the bridegroom, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Varney of North Berwick, Ne. Mrs. Basset wore a handsome gown of silver gray brocaded satin.
The ushers were William Basset, Jr., of Arlington, and William B. Hawes,, William H. Jennings and Cornelius S. Hawkins of this city.
The house was very beautifully decorated for the occasion with potted plants, vines and cut flowers, and the grounds were brilliantly illuminated with electric lights specially arranged for the occasion,
After a wedding trip to New York, Washington and the South, Mr. and Mrs. Varney will be at home at their residence on Highland avenue.
