      Harold R. Bassett
      Harold R. Bassett is one of the prominent business men of Crisfield, Somerset county, where he is vice president and treasurer of the Horsey & Bassett Manufacturing Company, Incorporated. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on the 16th of October, 1892, a son of Charles M. and Laura (Smith) Bassett. His father, who was born in 1854, is in the wholesale and retail bakery business in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and is a highly respected and esteemed citizen of that community.
      In the pursuit of his early education Harold R. Bassett attended the public schools of his birthplace. When his parents moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, he accompanied them and entered the high school in that city. He was a student in the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Connecticut, and subsequently attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Upon the completion of his education he entered the business world and subsequently came to Crisfield, where he was actively identified with the sea food business until 1922. In that year the Horsey & Bassett Manufacturing Company, a broom manufacturing concern, was incorporated, with Mr. Bassett as vice president and treasurer. He is sincerely devoted to his work and is satisfactorily discharging the various duties devolving upon him. He employs the best princicples of honesty and integrity in the conduct of his affairs and is a man of sterling worth.
      In Crisfield, on the 11th of October, 1916, Mr. Bassett was married to Miss Vesta Lackerman, a daughter of C.A. and Martha Lackerman. Mrs. Bassett is a woman of culture and refinement and she is prominent in the club and social circles of Crisfield. Fraternally Mr. Bassett is identified with the Maccabees and he is a member of the board of directors of the Methodist Episcopal church. He is public-spirited and is never too busy to cooperate in the furtherance of any movement for the benefit of the community.
