Thaddeus E. Bassett
Thaddeus E. Bassett, who for the past twenty years had been connected
with the City Engineer’s office, died Sunday morning at his home, 38 Ea
Mohawk street, following an illness of several weeks which at first was
thought not to be serious.
Mr. Bassett was born at Independence, Alleghany county, sixty years
ago and received his education and engineering training at Alfred University.
He came to Oswego in 1894 and for several years was with the street railroad
company before he went to the city engineer’s office as draftsman and
engineer.
Mr. Bassett was regarded as one of the city’s most faithful servants.
He was a man of quiet though pleasing manner, and by all who knew him he was
greatly esteemed, and respected. He had a great fund of knowledge about city
affairs and he will be missed at the City Hall.
Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Miss Katherine Bassett; two sons,
Walter Bassett, Shreveport, La.; Karl Bassett, New York; a sister, Mrs. Edwin
Carpenter, Florence, S.C., one brother, Thomas R. Bassett, of Alban
Funeral services will be held at his late home Tuesday at 8 p.m., the
Rev. Henry S. Sizer officiating. The remains will be taken to Independence,
his former home, for interment.
