Ernest M. Bessette, Athlete, drafted by the Mets
NAUGATICK - Ernest M. Bessette, 52, of 34 Windview Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was the husband of Pamela (Ravenscroft) Bessette. Mr. Bessette was born Nov. 10, 1953, in Waterbury, son of the late Maurice and Irene (Raymond) Bessette. He lived in Terryville before moving to Naugatuck in 1966. He graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1971, attended Post College, and graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a bachelor's degree in physical education. He played professional baseball and was drafted by the New York Mets, where he played for one season. His hobbies included baseball, football and basketball. Besides his wife of Naugatuck, he leaves three brothers, Gerald, Raymond and Damase Cyr; two sisters, Anita Schultz and Antoinette Ferrucci. Arrangements: Mass 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church, 338 North Main St., Naugatuck. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the church at 9:45 a.m. Burial in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. Arrangements by Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.
