BIRTH: Family group sheet prepared by Russell B. Moore - 11 Jan 1975.
MARRIAGE: Name of husband from 1880 census (see details below)
CENSUS: Jane was found in the 1850, 1855, and 1880 censuses.
In the 1850 census the Richard Bassett family was living at Cheektowaga, Erie, NY - p. 255 (BYU film #17075). In this census Jane was listed as age 12. The place of birth was left blank. Census taken 28 Sept 1850.
NOTE: A Jane Bassett appears in the 1850 Census of Cheektowaga, Erie, New York, age 12, in the household of Richard Bassett, and Jane Bassett also appears in the 1850 Census in Bennington, Wyoming, New York, age 10, in the household of Betsey Dudley. These entries are likely for the same person. Jane is the daughter of Richard, and the grand niece of Betsey. The Bennington census was taken on 6 Sep 1850 and the Cheektowaga census was taken on 28 Sep 1850. Jane could easily have been in each place at the time of their census. Her correct age would be 10 years. Cheektowaga and Bennington are about twenty miles apart.
In the 1855 state census the Richard Bassett family was living at Yorkshire, Cattaraugus, NY - p. 285 (BYU film #583832). In this census Jane was age 15 and born in Wyoming County.
In the 1880 census of Byron, Kent, Michigan - p. 15 (BYU film #1254588) the Joel Williams family included: Joel Williams, age 42, farmer, born in NY; Jane Williams, age 40, wife, born in NY; and Cora Williams, age 10, dau., born in MI.
