      History of LaSalle County (1886)
      Daniel Bassett was born in Harwinton, Litchfield County, Conn., Feb. 16, 1823. He was eldest son of Leverett Ives Bassett, who was the 6th lineal descendant of William Bassett who, with his brother John, emigrated from England to Boston, Mass. in 1639. John settled in Mass. and William near New Haven, Conn. Leverette I. Bassett was an extensive farmer, and his son Daniel inherited his dispostion to engage largely in agricultural pursuits. In the summer of 1852 he married Amy E. Barker of Plymouth, Conn. and the following autumn settled in Peoria County, Ill. where he remained until the spring of 1865, when he moved to Groveland Twp., LaSalle County. He was 560 acres of land in one tract which is one of the best farms in the county. In 1875 he built his barn, a substantial structure, 54 x 60 feet in size, and in 1883 erected his residence, which cost $5,000 and is one of the best arranged and most complete in every detail in the county. He has a village of buildings on his farm, and is surrounded by trees anda grove of his own planting. He had 3 children - Annis E., Owen B., and Ella A. Owen is assisting his father in the care and management of the farm. They pay much attention to stock raising.

      Joseph M. Bane, son of Mordecai Bane, was born July 13, 1847, in Lacon Township, Marshall Co., Ill. He came to Groveland Township (LaSalle Co.) in 1866 and lived on rented land five years, and two years was a grain-buyer in Dana. He then bought eighty acres of his present farm on which he has lived since 1876, and which now comprises 240 acres on sections 14 and 15. Feb. 9, 1875, he was married to Miss Annie E., daughter of Daniel Bassett. They had two sons - Daniel Hubert, born May 30, 1876, and Ira Owen, born Oct. 15, 1878, both natives of this township. Mr. Bane is a Democrat in politics, with Greenback proclivities. His father, Mordecai Bane, was born Sept. 30, 1820, in Washington County, Pa., and when a boy he removed to Marshall County, W. Va. He was there married to Sarah A. Blodgett, a native of Marshall County, W. Va., born Dec. 9, 1822. In 1846 he came with his family, via the Ohio, Mississippi, and Illinois rivers to Lacon, Ill. He resided on a farm near Shaw's Point until 1866 when he settled on section 28, Groveland Township - He then removed with nine of his thirteen children to Kingman County, Kan., where he still resides and is hale and prosperous.
