Lewis D. Bass
Lewis D. Bass, age 78, of Volga, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at the Estelline Nursing Home and Care Center in Estelline, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 3, 2005, at American Lutheran Church in Castlewood, with interment in Castlewood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Lewis DeVere Bass was born February 10, 1927, in Ewington Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, to Harrison and Dorothy (Berger) Bass. He attended rural county schools in Jackson and Murray Counties in Minnesota. Lewis graduated from Westbrook High School, Westbrook, Minnesota. He served in the army from 1945 to 1950. On October 22, 1950, he married Evelyn Bremer at Fulda, Minnesota. Lewis worked as a grain elevator manager from 1951 until 1961. He became a meat inspector for the state of South Dakota in 1962, and worked until ill health forced him to retire in 1975. Lewis was active in the Castlewood American Legion and the Sioux Falls John M. Bliss Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 628.
