Norman F. Bessette
NORMAN F. BESSETTE COLCHESTER - Norman F. Bessette, 77, a longtime residentof Colchester, died at home Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003. Norman was born inWinooski on Sept. 4, 1926, son of the late Francois and Marie (Brouillard)Bessette. He was a veteran of World War II, serving for the U.S. Army withthe 337th Air Service Group in Okinawa. Norman was married in Burlington onJan. 16, 1954, to the former Christine W. Hathaway. Norman retired after 27years with Colchester Fire District 2, where he was in-strumental indeveloping the water system in Malletts Bay. He was a member of the MallettsBay Fire Department, Colchester Rescue and the Benevolent and ProtectiveOrder of Elks. Norman enjoyed spending time with his family andgrandchildren and was very proud to be part of the fire department andrescue squad. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Tina Bessette; twosons, Mark Bessette and his wife, Tammy, of Burlington, and Jeffrey Bessetteof Colchester; two grandchildren, Ian Bessette and Kyle Bessette; a sister,Marie Jolin and her husband, Roger, of Quebec; a brother, Paul Bessette andhis wife, Lorraine, of Florida; and several brothers-in-law, sistersin-law,nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Norman RichardBessette, in 1975, and five brothers, Edward, Homer, Frank, Roger andRichard Bessette, and three sisters, Blanche, Mildred and Janette Bessette.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. inHoly Cross Catholic Church in Colchester. Interment will follow in HolyCross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made toColchester Rescue Association, P.O. Box 55, Colchester, or to Malletts BayFire Department, 844 Church Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446. Visiting hours willbe Sunday, Oct. 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home,132 Main St., Winooski.
