Dr. Beaty L. Bass Jr.
Dr. Beaty L. Bass, Jr., age 73 of Durham, NC, died on July 14, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Beaty was the son of the late Dr. Beaty Bass and Patsy Smith Bass of Ruther fordton, NC.
He is sur vived by his sisters, Emily Fox of Henderson-ville, NC, Patsy Hope Mitchell of Ruther fordton, NC and Virginia Tate of Lansing, NC. He is also sur vived by his wife, Linda Whitfield Bass; daughters, Karen Bass Swainey of Midlothian, VA; Sarah Bass of Atlanta, GA, stepson, Michael Whitfield of Rougemont, NC; stepdaughter, Michele Harmon of Raleigh, NC and seven grandchildren.
Beaty completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and continued on there for Medical School. He later attended the University of Iowa to complete his Residency. Beaty enjoyed a long medical career as a Medical Internist and Gastroenterologist in Durham. He retired in 2009. He also served his country in the U.S. Army as a medic stationed in Fort Greely, Alaska from 1973-1975.
Beaty loved music and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He and Linda especially enjoyed their time in their vacation home at Atlantic Beach. He loved to have family and friends join them there and to entertain them with fishing trips out into the ocean. Most ever y-one who visited there were treated to a ride on his skiff in search of clams, oysters and especially Atlantic Blue crabs!
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 2 at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave., NY, NY 10001.
