Barbara E. Hickey (1924-2016)
Barbara Elizabeth Hickey, age 91, of Sturgis, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 19, 2016, at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence in Battle Creek. She was born Sept. 19, 1924, in Concord, N.H., a daughter of the late Arnold and Vivian (McCann) Bassett. Mrs. Hickey resided in Sturgis since 1995, coming from LaGrange, Ind., where she lived for more than 30 years.
She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. She enjoyed doll making and clothing for the dolls. She was very involved and talented in ceramics and for many years traveled to craft fairs to sell her many creations. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Ronald) McKinley of Bronson; a son, Steven Hickey of LaGrange, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Harry Bennett of Ontario, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Ray and Johnny Bennett. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Barbara E. Hickey will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Robert Keim will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
