Evelyn Stevens, 63, deaconess, sexton
Evelyn A. (Bassett) Stevens, 63, of 136 Third Street, Turners Falls, a deaconess and sexton at First Congregational Church, died on Wednesday in the Mary Hitchcock Hospital, Hanover, N.H.
Born in Northfield, she was a 1944 graduate of Northfield High School. She later moved to Turners Falls.
She was also a custodian at the church.
Her interests were traveling and reading.
She leaves her husband of 43 years, John H. Stevens; four sons, Reginald of Greenfield, and John Jr., Alan and Mark of Turners Falls; five daughters, Linda Carey, Helen Doolittle, Nancy Baltzer and Mary Doucette of Turners Falls, and Jo-An Siano of Hadlyme, Conn.; two brothers, Richard and Roger of Northfield; three sisters, Grace Flood of Deerfield and Beatrice Aldrich and Marita Kozma of Northfield; 18 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday morning in First Congregational Church, Turners Falls, with burial in West Northfield Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon and evening at Kostanski Funeral Home of Greenfield.
