Vaughn Harmon Bassett
Vaughn Harmon Bassett, 53-year-old lifetime resident of Osmond died suddenly at his home on Monday, Dec 17, 1973, about 10 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday Dec 21 at 1 p.m. in the Osmond Ward under the direction of the Schwab Mortuary, with Counselor Garth Turner conducting. Burial will be in the Afton Cemetery.
Mr Bassett was born at Osmond, Wyo. July 9, 1920, the ninth child in a family of 14, to Alma and Sarah Jane Harmon Bassett. He attended schools until completion of the sixth grade, when he began working to help with the family obligations. In January, 1943 he entered the Army Air Force and spent some time in the European theatre of operations during the Second World War. He returned home in October of 1945.
He was married to Melva Schwab in Afton on June 8, 1947.
They were blessed with five sons, Kent, Brett, Rayce, Bradley and Gregg.
He worked as an automobile mechanic in Afton until his health failed enough to make it impossible to continue and later did what work he was able to do when opportunity arose.
The outdoors was a favorite spot for Vaughn, and he was his happiest when he was outside with his family and friends. Some of the most important things in his life were the many friends he had, and he regarded them highly.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding the office of an Elder. At the time of his death he was a home teacher, a calling which he enjoyed.
A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he was installed as Commander of Post No.4797 of Afton last May.
He is survived by five sons all of Afton; brothers and sisters, Alma Alvero and Loran of Soda Springs, Idaho, Orson of Afton; Kirby of Hummelstows, Pa.; Sperry of Magna, Utah; Sylvia Larsen of Green River, Wyo.; Emma Kenney of Bellingham Wash.;; Wanda Bowden of Vernal, Utah; and Joette wade of Kearns, Utah.
