White-Bass
Sanford, June 29 - A wedding of much interest to friends throughout the state occurred in Siler City on Wednesday evening at 7:30 o’clock when Miss Eloise Bass became the bride of William H. White. The vows where said by Reverend R.C. Gilmore, D.D., pastor of the Sanford Presbyterian Church and Reverend S.A. Cotton, pastor of Steele Street Methodist Church both of Sanford. The ceremony was performed in the Baptist church. Preceding the ceremony, with Mrs. H.C Roberts of Sanford at the organ and Mrs. Victor King of Sanford at the piano, the Bridal Chorus and other music was rendered by a vested choir.
As the strains of the wedding march from “Lohengrin,” with Mrs. H.C. Roberts at the organ began the gates for the entrance of the bridal party were opened by Little Nancy Anne Makepeace of Sanford and Mary Evans of Siler City. The ushers were Ray W. Barnes of Sanford, and M.W. Beckwith of Fayetteville. Following them came the brides maides, Misses Virginia Cathell of Raliegh, and Miss Polly Jordan of Siler City, becomingly gowned in pink maline over satin and carrying baskets of garden flowers. The groomsmen were John R. Jones, Jr., of Albemarle, and Edward Klingham of Greensboro. The matron of honor was Mrs. Fred Morrow of Mooresville, sister of the bridegroom, the dame of honor, a sister of the bride, was Mrs. B.C. Barksdale of Siler City, and the maid of honor, Miss Norine Sowers of Lexington, all of whom wore identical dresses of pink maline and carried corsages. Immediately preceding the bride was the little flower girl, Katherine Arnold of Jonesboro and the ring bearer, Jack Barksdale of Siler City, nephew of the bride.
The bride, lovely in her wedding gown of white satin with an Italian lace bridal veil and carrying an exquisite bouquet of roses, lilies of the valley and orchids entered with her brother in law, B.C. Barksdale of Siler City. She was met by the bridegroom who was accompanied by his best man W.H. Andrews, Jr. of Greensboro.
Following the ceremonies Mr. and Mrs. Barksdale entertained at a delightful reception. Mr. and Mrs. White left for an extended tour, upon their return they will be at home in Sanford.
Mrs. White is the daughter of the late Reverend L. D. and Mrs. Bass of Siler City. She is a graduate of Greensboro College and Peabody Conservatory of Music, Baltimore. For the past two years she has been director of music in the Jonesboro schools. She is a talented musician whose voice is always heard with much pleasure.
Mr. White who is a native of Asheboro is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. White. He is manager of the Sanford office of the Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company. He is active in church, business, civic and fraternal affairs. During the World War he saw service over seas and is Past Commander of the local American Legion Post. He is one of Sanford’s leading citizens and is popular to an unusual degree.

Mrs. Eloise Bass White
Sanford - Mrs. Eloise Bass White, 49, of Sanford died at Lee County Hospital about 3:30 Friday afternoon after a lingering illness. She was born in Illinois, daughter of the late Dr. Liston D. Bass and Alice Rutledge. Funeral services will be held at Steele Street Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Reverend A.S. Parker and Dr. Howard Newman. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour at the church. She is survived by her husband, W. H. White; one son, W.H. White Jr., of Sanford; one daughter, Miss Margaret Ann White, a senior at Greensboro College; and one brother, George L. Bass of Columbia, South Carolina.
