Arthur J. ?Pat? Barber Jr. (1926 ? 2018) (Picture included)
South Burlington - Arthur J. "Pat" Barber, Jr., age 91, a longtime resident of South Burlington and Shelburne, passed away peacefully Jan. 24th at the VNA Respite House.
Pat was born in Burlington, VT on July 6, 1926, son of the late Arthur J. Barber, Sr. and Lena (Coushing) Barber. He attended Cathedral High School, then joined the US Navy and served on the USS Laub (DD 613) during World War II. He was married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Burlington on February 15, 1947 to the former Dorothy Bessette.
Pat was employed for 25 years with NBC Bakery and retired after 15 years with the Colchester School System. He was also a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife Dorothy until she passed away in 2004. Pat was also predeceased by his sister Violet Barber Memmo, sister-in-law Rita Bassi, a special niece Jane Jacobson who was like a daughter to him and loved by him very much, Janie's husband Robert W., and special companion Betty Bessette. He is survived by his great nephews Robert and Joseph Jacobson whom he always treated like his own kids, his cousin and spouse Louise and George Fillman, as well as a niece Patricia Memmo Reed and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 30th at 10am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in South Burlington. Interment will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McClure Miller VNA Respite House in Colchester. Visiting hours will be Monday, January 29th from 4pm to 7pm at LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St., Winooski, VT.
