      Obituary - Flora Mary Jaynes

Flora Mary Jaynes who died at the Women and Childrens hospit
Syracuse on Sunday evening, December 5th, was the daughter of the late Osbert
Andrus Bassett and Ruth Smith, and was born in Norwich May 15th, 1854.
Receiving her preparatory education at the Norwich academy, she entered
Brockport normal school and was graduated in the classical course from that
institution in 1872. She was married on October 1st, 1873, to Asa W. Jaynes,
M.D., of Syracuse, and for some time lived in that city. After a short
residence in Sherburne, she came to Norwich, where the remainder of her life
      was spent.
She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Almon Andrus Jaynes and Walter
Bassett Jaynes of Syracuse, and one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Olive Smith of this
city; and by five grandchildren, George Walter Jaynes, Edwin Bassett Jaynes
and Walter Bassett Jaynes of Syracuse and Ruth Jordan Smith and Andrus Bassett
Smith of Norwich, and by her mother, Mrs. O. A. Bassett and a sister, Mrs.
Anna Bassett Franklin who live just east of the city.
Mrs. Jaynes was a communicant of the Episcopal church. While she cared
little for the activities of society, she had a keen appreciation of all that
was best in literature and arts and in life she was a kind and sympathetic
neighbor, a wise, devoted and self sacrificing mother.
Funeral services were held in Trinity church, Syracuse on Tuesd
morning, the Rt. Rev. Charles Flaker S.T.D. Bishop Coadjutor of the diocese,
officiating, assisted by the Rev. Robert Hudson, Ph.D. The committal service
was read at her late home on Silver street on Wednesday morning by the Rev. H.
      W. Foreman and burial was made in the Quarter cemetery east of the city.
