Amelia Louise Bassett
A memorial service for Amelia Louise Bassett, a 107-year-old Southeast Portland resident who worked as a seamstress for a number of years, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Mrs. Bassett died of causes related to age on Oct. 18 in a Milwaukie care center. She was born Oct. 28, 1884, in Stayton, Ill., but had lived in the Portland area since 1902. Mrs. Bassett had worked for the Benson Hotel for 15 years and was employed as a seamstress and laundry worker for several other Portland-area businesses. She retired in 1957. Her husband, Charles Bassett, died in 1942. Mrs. Bassett is survived by her son, John of Portland; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Disposition was by cremation.
