NORTH CREEK, N.Y. Laura G. Bassett, 84, formerly of Bird Pond Rd., passed away Tuesday, may 25, 2004 at the Adirondack Tri-County Health Care Center following a long illness. Born February 25, 1920 in Ellenburg, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Clarissa (Beach) Malark. Laura married Elmer H. Bassett on June 13, 1942 in Constable. The couple lived on Bird Pond Road in North Creek since 1952. In the 1980s, she was a faithful employee for the BOles and Stephenson families in Chestertown. Laura and her children were communicates of St. James Catholic Church in Olmstedville. Laura was a devoted wife and mother, loyal neighbor, dedicated friend and adventurous traveler. She was an avid reader, herbalist and naturalist and enjoyed walks in the forest with her children. Besides her parents, three brothers, Dennis Malark, Nathan Mike Malark and James Malark (5-24-04-; and two sisters, Sister Mary Joseph and Edith Griffith, have all predeceased her. Survivors beside her husband of 62 years include four children, Gerald Bassett and his wife, Maria, of Oriskany, Linda Lynn of Glens falls, Annie Joy and her husband, Brad, of Brant lake and Dr. Calla Bassett and her husband, Dr. Robert Constantine of Albany/Syracuse; her sister, Martha Laramie of Fort Covington; her brother, James Malark of Constable; six grandsons; four granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., 4479 State Route 28, North River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. James Roman Catholic Church in North Creek with Father George Fleming, pastor, officiating.
