F.J. Bassett Dies in Fargo at 48
FARGO, N.D. – Frank James Bassett, 48, Mankato, Minn., a native of
Fargo, died Saturday in a Fargo hospital, to which he had been admitted last
Sunday.
He had been ill with influenza since early in the winter and after
being hospitalized at Mankato came to Fargo to visit his mothers, sister, Miss
Margaret, and brother, Robert Bassett, here. He died from complications
following a stroke.
Besides his mother, brother and sister, Mr. Bassett leaves two sons,
Francis James and Robert Knight Bassett.
Mr. Bassett was a veteran of the World war, enlisting in Co. B., First
infantry, North Dakota national guard, April 7, 1917. He was commission
second lieutenant in the quartermaster corps Oct. 4, 1918, which rank he held
upon his discharge in August, 1919. He was overseas from Dec. 15, 1917, to
July 29, 1919.
After graduation from Sacred Heart academy here, Mr. Bassett attended
Dakota Business college and in 1911 went into the employ of Internation
Harvester company. Following the war he returned to the concern and was in
Fargo until his transfer to Aberdeen, S.D., in 1928. He went to Bismarck a
year later, where he remained until going to Mankato in 1933.
Mr. Bassett was a member of the Catholic church and requiem services
were held here Monday morning in St. Mary’s cathedral here with Very Re
William T. Mulloy officiating. Burial was to be made in Holy Cross cemetery in
Fargo.
Mr. Bassett was formerly affiliated with the Knights of Columbus
organization in Fargo, was a member of the American Legion and of the Legion’s
40 et 8 group.
