Gladys May Gravely Bass
Mount Airy - Mrs. Gladys May Gravely Bass, 77, of 186 Atkins Lane, the wife of the late Worth E. Bass, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Bass was born in Surry County on April 15, 1925, daughter of the late Walter and Sarah Ross Gravely. She retired from Cross Creek Apparel and was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Trudy and the Reverend Frank Huffman of Ararat; a son and daughter-in-law, the Reverend Dale and Brenda Bass of Mount Airy; two grandsons and a spouse, Matthew David and Cara Hiatt and Johnathan Bass, all of Mount Airy; a great-granddaughter, Caitlin Hiatt of Mount Airy; a stepgrandson and spouse, Tony and Denny Huffman of Port Charlotte, Florida; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Gina Huffman and Geremy Huffman, both of Port Charlotte, Florida. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bass was preceded in death by two sisters, Lettie Simmons and Lucy Goad; and seven brothers, Robert Gravely, Albert Gravely, Samuel Gravely, Harvey Lee Gravely, Clinton Gravely, Thomas Gravely and Richard Gravely. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Little Mountain Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Bill Watson, the Reverend Frank Huffman and the Reverend Rayton Puckett. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Moody Funeral Home, Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the funeral service. The family appreciates your concern and requests that food be omitted. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Little Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Verla V.
