Harold B. Bessette Sr. (Includes picture)
HAROLD B. BESSETTE SR. - COLCHESTER - Harold B. Bessette Sr., 86, of Colchester, died in Fletcher Allen Health Care, with his family by his side, on Dec. 7, 2012, after a brief illness. He was born in Burlington on June 17, 1926, son of Paul and Emma (Mongeon) Bessette. Harold joined the U.S. Navy at 17, and served as a Gunner's Mate in the Armed Guard during W.W.II. He worked for Metropolitan Life as a salesman for 33 years, and then worked as a self-employed contractor. Most recently, he had worked at Essex Automotive. Harold had been seen for years driving his 1975 green Ford truck or his yellow Lincoln on North Avenue. He was a member of St. Joseph Co- Cathedral, the VFW, Howard Plant Post #782, and the American Legion Post 91 in Colchester. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Marlene (Hathaway) of Colchester; daughter, Paula Katon of Burlington; six step- children, Brenda Currier of Colchester, Paul Bushey of South Burlington, Michael Bushey and wife, Nancy, of Homassasa, Fla., Cindy Poulin of Burlington, Jerry Bushey and wife, Janet, of Colchester, and Donald Bushey of Burlington; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Kerri Bessette of Addison; sisters, Geri Varricchione of Colchester, Beulah Delibac of Burlington, and Janet Hale and husband, Robert, of Sebastian, Fla.; several grand and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Annabell (Riley) in 1990; son, Harold B. Bessette Jr. in 1994; two brothers, Don and Norm Bessette; and sister, Ilene Riley. Visiting hours will be today, Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N. Winooski Ave., Burlington. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, in the funeral home, with interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, where Harold will be accorded full military honors. Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors. Contributions in Harold's memory may be made to the Humane Society of Chittenden County, 142 Kindness Court, South Burlington, VT 05403.
