- 3B3254367. William Albert Bassett - born 21 Nov 1877 in Providence, Cache County, Utah.
BIRTH: Day and month, 21 Nov, from Mendon Ward records, 2nd item p.73 (FHL
film #26137). The year 1877 is verified by the 1880 and 1900 censuses (see census references below). In the 1880 census of Clarkston, Cache, Utah William was age two prior to June 1, 1880. On the 21st of Nov he turned three which makes his calculated year of birth 1877. In the 1900 census
of Collinston Precinct, Box Elder, Utah his birth is listed as Nov 1877. Other sources have his year of birth listed as 1879. The 1877 year fits in with the birth of the other family members better than the year 1879. William's younger brother, Richard, was born 29 Jan 1880; therefore, it is unlikely that William was born in Nov 1879.
DEATH: William moved away from the family, and no one knows where he went or what happened to him.
CENSUS: William Albert Bassett was found in the 1880 & 1900 census living with his family.
In the 1880 census of Clarkston, Cache, Utah, En. Dist. 13, p.9 (BYU film #1255336) William Albert was living with his parents and listed as William A., age 2, son, and born in Utah.
In the 1900 census of Collinston Precinct, Box Elder, Ut. En. Dist. 206, sheet 5 (FHL film #1241682) William Albert was living with his parents and listed as William A., son, born Nov 1877, age 22, single, born in Utah, and a day laborer.
HISTORICAL INFO: Will (name he was known by) worked with Ammon Bassett. Ammon remembers a stove pipe hat that his Uncle Will used to wear. On this particular job they were up a canyon camping in a tent. For some reason they had a pig with them. This pig got into the tent and they chased him out and somehow the stove pipe hat got on the pig's head. After this incident Will wouldn't wear the hat. He didn't want to wear what a pig would wear. Will was a short man.
