Two Pioneers Answer Calls Across Divide
Lewis E. Bassett and Samuel Riley, Rural Citizens Pass Away
Lewis E. Bassett, a well known citizen of Allen county and member of one of the pioneer families residing north of this city, died at his late home one mile west of Beaverdam at 2.30 o?clock Wednesday afternoon, his death resulting from liver trouble from which he had been a sufferer for a long period of time. The deceased was forty years of age and had spent his entire life in the community in which he died. He was prominent in the affairs of his community and had served as a township trustee.
Surviving the death of Mr. Bassett are his wife, two daughters, Ruth and Nellie; one son, Paul Bassett, residing at the homestead; five brothers, Philo Bassett, of Bath township, and Samuel, of Washington, D.C.; also two sisters, Mrs. George Flager, of Bath township, and Mrs. John Roder, of this city.
The funeral will be held at 10 o?clock Friday morning from the Disciple church at Beaverdam. The Rev. Frank Custer will conduct the services an interment will be made in the Rockport cemetery.
