- State of Ohio, Allen County
Philo Bassett, of the age of Fifty (50) years, being first duly sworn,
says: that he is a son of one Lewis Bassett, deceased; that one Samuel
Bassett, who was the grandfather of this affiant, died intestate in the year
1865, leaving as his only children and his sole and only heirs at law, Lewis
Bassett, Laura Bassett Edgecomb, and Lavisa Bassett Ward; also Elsa Bassett,
his widow, who died in the year 1873.
Affiant further says that the said Lavis Bassett Ward died intestate
in the year 1864, leaving as her only children and her sole and only heirs at
law, Joseph Ward, Samuel Ward, Charles Ward, Laura Ann Ward, William Ward and
Eliza Jane Ward.
Affiant further says that Lewis Bassett, (who was then a widower), the
father of this affiant, died intestate on or about the 25th day of March, A.D.
1902, leaving as his only children and his sole and only heirs at law, the
following: Samuel H. Bassett, Philo Bassett, Marquis Bassett, William Bassett,
Lewis Bassett, Nelson Bassett, Anna Bassett Roder and Jane Bassett Flagger.
Affiant further says that to his certain knowledge his said father,
Lewis Bassett, was the owner and had the open, exclusive, uninterrupted,
notorious and adverse, possession of the premises in this abstract described
from the dates of the various deeds made to him up until the time of his death
as herein stated.

Philo Bassett Dies at Blufftown, Ohio
Uncle of Mrs. W.J. Gunby Passed Away at Age of 84
Was Last of Seven Sons
Word has been received here by Mrs. W.J. Gunby of the death of her
uncle, Philo Bassett, at his home in Bluffton, Ohio.
Mr. Bassett, eighty-four, was the last of seven sons of Lewis a
Sarah Edgecomb Bassett. He lived, at the time of his death, with his so
Harrison, at the farm which his grandfather, Sam Bassett, obtained as a
government grant in 1927. He had made his home there during his entire life.
The Bassett family living there now is the fifth generation of the family to
reside on the farm.
Mr. Bassett is survived by six daughters and two sons. Two daughters
and Mrs. Bassett, a sister of Mrs. Gunby’s mother, preceded him in death.
