Kathryn A. (Bassett) Vara, 81, of 2022 Rohde St., Sandusky, died early Wednesday morning in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, after a brief illness.
She was born in Port Clinton, and was employed at New Departure Hyatt for 25 years, retiring in 1972. She was very devoted to her family and represented everything that was kind, good and generous in this life.
She is survived by her husband, Nicholas A. Vara, whom she married Nov. 19, 1944; three daughters, Kathie Chandler of Las Vegas, Nev., Vicki (Wayne( Kiesel of Medina, Ohio, and Linda (Douglas) Goslar of Bellevue; two sons, Jerry Vara of Sandusky and Jeffrey Vara, at home; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sisters, Evelyn DeWood of Las Vegas, Nev.; and two brothers, Joseph Bassett of Toledo, and Richard G. Bassett of Oak Harbor.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Kelley, on Oct. 19, 1979; her parents Nahmy and Wadis (Bassitt) Bassett; and a granddaughter, Terri Lyn Thomas.
Friends may call y-9 p.m. Friday and 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A graveside service will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Restlawn Memorial Park, Huron, with Rev. Chuck Nash of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating.
