Bassett - Myrta S. Bliss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Bliss, was born in
Richburg, N.Y., April 15, 1866, and died in the Bethesda Hospital, Hornell,
September 27, 1949, after a lingering illness.
On September 14, 1886, she was married to William H. Bassett, with whom she
built her happy home. She spent her entire life in unselfish service to the
Church and the community; she was ever quick and hearty in her response to
human need and suffering from whatever source need came. She had a host of
friends, as well as her immediate family, who will sorely miss her. She is
survived by her husband; three sons, Leon B.; W. Donald of Canton, Ohio;
Robert B. of Darlington, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. James Evans; one sister, Miss
Edna Bliss; and one brother. Dr. T. Coit Bliss.
Mrs. Bassett took advantage of educational opportunities offered by Alfred
University and thus prepared herself to fill well the many calls made upon her
time and talents. Her loss will be deeply felt.
Farewell services were conducted in the Church before a large congregation,
and the body was laid to rest in Alfred Rural Cemetery.

Mrs. William Bassett
Alfred ? Mrs. William H. Bassett, 83, died Tuesday (Sept. 27, 1949) at Bethesda Hospital, Hornell.
She had been ill health since 1944 and at the hospital since Sept. 12. Mrs. Bassett was born Myrtha S. Bliss, April 14, 1866, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Bliss. The family moved to Alfred in 1881 and on Sept. 14, 1886 she married William H. Bassett. In 1902 when her husband became manager of Alfred Telephone and Telegraph Co., she assumed position of chief operator which she held until retirement in 1944. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of Alfred, Seventh Day Baptist Church, Order of Amaranth, a past matron of Kanakadea 626, OES, and past member of Good Templers and the Evangelical Society.
Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Leon B. Bassett, Alfred, W. Donald Bassett, North Canton, Pa., Robert B. Bassett, Darlington, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. James R. Evans, Alfred; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 o?clock Saturday afternoon in village church. The Rev. Edgard Van Horn will officiate, burial in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
