Noah A. Bassett
BASSETT, Noah A. Bassett, Noah A. Noah, 85, of Columbia died peacefully Monday (April 18, 2011) at Windham Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Noah is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Doris (Beaulieu) Bassett; his endeared children Deborah Bassett, Douglas Bassett and Craig Bassett and Craig's wife Amy as well as his grandchildren Tiffani Bassett (and her mother Tammy Konarski and her brother Joel Patrick Hebert II), Benjamin Bassett, Nikolas Bassett and Jacob Bassett. Noah is also survived by his brothers and their wives Robert and Jean Bassett and Donald and Marlene Bassett; a step sister Lillian Roberts as well as his brother-in-law and his wife Delphis and Juanita Beaulieu. Noah is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Noah is predeceased by his adored sisters Violet (Bassett) Jacobsen and Rhoda (Bassett) Brown as well as his step brother Francis "Whitey" Sellers. Noah was born in Ohio but relocated in his early teens to Willimantic where he joined the Armed Forces and was a veteran serving in both World War II <http://www.legacy.com/legacies/ww2/?personid=150425752&affiliateID=124> and the Korean War <http://www.legacy.com/legacies/korean-war/?personid=150425752&affiliateID=124>. After returning and finishing his services in the military, Noah met his wife and settled in Windham, CT where they raised their family. Noah owned an auto garage in Willimantic, earned the distinguished award of Doctor of Motors from Ford Motor Company and went on to work for Sears and Roebuck for 26 years as a service technician. In 1995, Noah defeated the odds and survived a heart attack that had ruptured his heart and a miraculous surgery allowed him the precious gift of sixteen years enabling him to enjoy his grandchildren and spend treasured time with his family and friends. Noah enjoyed many retired years with his wife in Columbia where he worked on many projects in his home and various vehicles. If it could be fixed, Noah would fix it, even if the fix was just "temporary". Calling hours will be on Friday (April 22) from 6-8 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 23rd at 10 a.m. with a burial at Center Cemetery in Columbia following.
