Yvonne R. Bessette
Yvonne R. Bessette, 90, formerly of Grand Avenue, owner of Whitey's Cafe, Grand Avenue, for 17 years before retiring in 1965, died Tuesday at Residence St. Antoine, North Smithfield. She was the widow of Ernest J. Bessette.
Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Misrael and Elmire (St. Jean) Laliberte, she lived in Pawtucket most of her life.
Mrs. Bessette co-owned the cafe with her husband until his death in 1948, when she assumed ownership until retirment. She was a member of the Union of Prayer at St. Cecilia Church.
She leaves three sons, Normand Bessette of Seekonk, Mass., and Bernard and Michael Bessette, both of Pawtucket; six daughters, Jeanne Dube of Portsmouth, Simone Gentile of Mapleville, Bernadette Lapointe of Plainville, Mass., Theresa Nordquist of Fort Myers, Fla., Anne Marie Gentile of Coventry and Diane Wood of Pawtucket; two sisters, Alida Pruneau of Cumberland and Florence Judd of Pawtucket; five brothers, Louis and Walter Laliberte, both of Attleboro, Raymond and Francis Laliberte, both of Pawtucket, and Norman Laliberte in Florida; 32 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from The Prata Home, 372 Broadway, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Cecilia Church, Central Avenue. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
