Claire Emmett Bassett
A resident of Ridgetown, Claire Emmett Bassett passed away at his residence on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the age of 83. Born in Petrolia, son of the late Thomas E. and Betty L. (Caton) Bassett. Beloved husband of Betty (Johnston) Bassett for 56 years. Dear father of Ralph Bassett, Mary Kay Crow, Melanie McRae, Colleen Grant, Patrick Bassett and his wife Michelle, all of London, and the late John, Jim and Rick Bassett. Brother of Jaen and Alan Guyitt of Rondeau Park, and the late Learel Loyer, Louise Atkinson, and Berton Bassett. Brother-in-law of Sheridan Atkinson and his wife Sue of R.R. #1 Morpeth, Robert Johnston and his wife Ann of Chatham, Rev. Fr. Martin Johnston of Ridgetown, and Robert Martin and his wife Marion of Ridgetown. Claire was a veteran of World War 2 where he served as Flight Lieutenant, Bomber Command, Royal Canadian Air Force. He was an actively involved veteran and served as Branch Service Bureau Officer of Royal Canadian Legion, Br. #243 Ridgetown. Claire also provided joy to Ridgetown as the “Easter Bunny” for 26 years. Family will received Friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street, East, Ridgetown (%19) 674-3141 on Monday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Legion Service will be held at the Funeral home on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Parish prayers will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Ridgetown on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 11:00 with Rev. Fr. Martin, the Celebrant. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Ridgetown at a later date. Donations by cheque to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #243 Poppy Fund or Community care Access Centre (Chatham-Kent) would be appreciated.
