Barbara Bassett Betts, 94 (picture included)
SWAMPSCOTT – Miss Barbara Bassett Betts, age 94, formerly of Norfolk Ave.,
Swampscott, died Thursday, February 28th, at Bertram House, Swampscott after a
brief illness. Born in Adams, MA, she is the daughter of the late Herman and
Myrtis (Bassett) Betts.
She is a graduate of Swampscott High School, class of 1930 and Radcliffe
College, class of 1934. She received her Masters Degree in 1935. A textbook
editor, she worked for Houghton-Mifflin and Heath in Boston until her
retirement in 1978. Barbara was an active member of Washington St. Baptist
Church, Lynn. She was also a member of the Phi Betta Kappa Society, the
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Association of Teachers of
Mathematics of New England, the American Mathematical Association and t
Mathematical Society of America. Barbara is survived by her many friends and
associates.
Service Information: Her funeral will be held on Monday March 10, 20
11:30 am in the Washington Street Baptist Church, 256 Washington Street, Lynn,
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to Washington St. Baptist Church Women’s Association, 256
