Awardee: Dr. William Bassett, Orange County
Dr. William Bassett?s volunteer and community activities are countless. Not only is he an active member of the Wallkill-East Rotary, but he is also the club's top member-recruiter. As an active Rotarian, he has served as past district governor, coordinator of the Pine Bush High School Interact Club/Junior Rotary, organizer of the annual Circleville Middle School career fair, and the annual distribution of dictionaries throughout the Pine Bush elementary schools. Additionally, Dr. Bassett is a member of the American Legion, has donated time to the Tri-County Partnership/Hope Not Handcuffs program, and has served as a board member of the Orange Regional Medical Center. Whether it is helping with local roadside clean up or a pancake breakfast fundraiser, you will always see Bill Bassett! Dr. Bassett is an extremely active, well-respected member of his community. Dr. Bassett served as superintendent for both the Pine Bush School District and Orange-Ulster BOCES. Dr. Bassett and his wife Susan reside in Pine Bush, NY, and raised their three children in Orange County. They are now the proud grandparents of three wonderful grandchildren. Dr. Bassett is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Dr. Bassett shared his thoughts about community service: ?Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community many times by only giving of your time. You feel good about helping others or a community organization. People appreciate volunteers and it generates a great deal of personal satisfaction to know that you gave of yourself to help others.
