Cumulatively, they represent a total of 225 years of service in the field of education, and all of them are grandparents. Catherine Bassett – The widow of Joseph Bassett, she has been a teacher and librarian for 20 years. She was originally from Palmyra, and was graduated from Genesee Normal. Prior to her marriage, she taught fifth and sixth grades for 11 years. She returned to the faculty six years ago to teach seventh grade English. For 3 years she was librarian at Cayler Elementary School, and for the past two years at Red Creek High School. Her daughter, Miss Sharon Bassett, is Professor of English at State Teachers College, Los Angeles. Her son, William who was recently discharge from the Navy, teaches at Webster. Mrs. Bassett has one grandchild. She is a member of St. Thomas Church and the Altar & Rosary Society, as well as the Ladies Literary Society at Red Creek. The Journal Register, Medina, New York, Monday, November 22, 1982 Mrs. Bassett Dies; Had Been School Teacher Catherine D. Bassett of 6 Ricky Place, died suddenly Saturday at Medina Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bassett was born Feb. 21, 1907 in Elmira, the daughter of William and Ella (Hannagan) Driscoll. She had lived in the Red Creek, N.Y. area most of her life and was a retired school teacher from Red Creek Central School. She had lived in Medina for the past year and a half and was a member of St. Stephen’s R.C. Church in Middleport. For most of her life she had been a member of St. Thomas R.C. Church in Red Creek. Wife of the late Joseph P. Bassett, she is survived by one son, William (Susan) Bassett of Middleport; one daughter, Miss Sharon Bassett of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, Kristine, Kelly and Michael Bassett, all of Middleport. Funeral services will be held in Red Creek. Arrangements were made by Bates-Cleary Funeral Home, 232 Park Ave.
