Roland Bass
CHILLICOTHE - Roland K. Bass, 89, formerly of Chillicothe, died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, where he was a resident.
Roland was born Nov. 26, 1918, in rural Wyoming, Ill., the son of Ezra Keith and Ethel Wehr Bass. He married Mary Ardis Armstrong in rural Toulon. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Rhonda Bubser of Pecatonica, Ill., Debra Bass of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Karma (and David) Ritchie of East Peoria, Ill.; two sons, Alton (and Linda) Bass of Brimfield, Ill., and Cordele (and Tina) Bass of North Richland Hills, Texas; four grandsons, Jamie (and Deborah) Bubser of Pecatonica, Ill., Jeff Bass of Cuba, Ill., Tom (and Becki) Bass of Washburn, N.D., and Jonathan Ritchie of East Peoria, Ill.; two granddaughters, Kimberly Ruester of Pecatonica, Ill., and Allison Ritchie of East Peoria, Ill.; one great-grandson, Kaeden Ruester of Pecatonica, Ill.; and one great-granddaughter, Ella Bass of Cuba, Ill.
His parents preceded him in death.
Roland was a Toulon High School graduate and he attended the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago.
He first worked at LeTourneau in Peoria, Ill., and Longview, Texas, from 1940 until 1964. He then worked from 1964 until 1966 at Warner Electric Brake & Clutch in South Beloit, Ill. Roland last worked at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria as a planning engineer from 1966 until retiring in 1982.
Roland was a member of Peoria County Farm Bureau, National Parks Conservation Association and the Longview Camera Club in Longview, Texas. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chillicothe and its Men's Club, where he also taught adult Sunday school.
Roland had many hobbies, which included gardening, photography, travel, woodworking, bowling, fishing and playing euchre.
Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of ashes will be at a later date in Toulon Cemetery.
DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home in Toulon is in charge of arrangements.
