Bassett And Sons Add Two New Firm Members
J.W. Lancaster Jr., and Irwin N. Lee Now Active in Shoe Business
J.W. Lancaster, Jr., and Irwin N. Lee have been admitted as members of the firm of S. Bassett and Sons, shoe dealers, 238 West Main Street, it was announced yesterday. Mr. J.E. Bassett, who is president of the Fayette National Bank, and senior member of the firm, will retain an active interest in the business.
Both Mr. Lancaster and Mr. Lee have been with the firm of which they now become active and directing members. Mr. Lancaster has been connected with the business, which was founded more than sixty years ago by Squire Bassett, for more than 29 years, and since the death of Mr. Bassett has been manager of the sales department and has been associated with J.E. Bassett in the buying. Mr. Lancaster before coming to his present firm was with John W. Lancaster, Sr., who was many years the manager of the shoe firm of H.P. Lancaster.
Mr. Lee, who is Mr. Bassett's son-in-law, has had long experience in Atlanta and other cities. He formerly was a member of the firm of the Thorpe-Lee Company, men's furnishings, now R.S. Thorpe and Sons.
The business will continue to be conducted under the name of the founder, S. Bassett and Sons. In existence for 66 years, the firm is a landmark in Lexington business. The shoe store is one of the largest in Central Kentucky.
