      Robert R. Bassett
      Robert R. Bassett, 87, passed away Friday, October 5, 2007 at River Oaks Hospital. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home, High Street, Jackson.
      Mr. Bassett was born June 11, 1920 in Akron, Ohio to Robert and Lavinia Bassett. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he received his degree in architecture from Carnegie Tech University. Upon graduating from Carnegie Tech, he toured the south and decided that Mississippi would be a good place to start his architecture practice. He and college friend, Art Godfrey, started Godfrey and Bassett Architects. They had a successful practice for over forty years with several different partners. Mr. Bassett was a little league coach, a member of the Levell Woods Exchange Club, the Lions Club and a long time member of Alta Woods Presbyterian Church.
      He is predeceased by his wife, Marion B. Bassett. He is survived by: his daughter, Lani B. Redington (Mal), of Jacksonville, Florida; and sons, Bobby Bassett (Bete) of Ridgeland and David Bassett of Canton, Texas; four grandsons, Blair B. Redington of Jacksonville, Florida; Seth Bassett of Tallahassee, Florida; Ross Bassett of Hattiesburg and Nathan Bassett of Canton, Texas; his stepbrother, Sidney (Jan) Smith and their children Wendy and Eric of Sarasota, Florida. Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, 4395 South Drive.
