She was born November 26, 1926, in Madison, the daughter of Joseph and Sadie McPherson Tallman. In 1947 she and Clinton J. Bassett were united in marriage. He died in 1997. Survivors include her children, Stanley Bassett, Clinton Bassett, Robert Bassett, Howard Bassett, and Thomas Bassett; also Linda Bikowsky, Tina Eisenhut, Tammy Jaseck, Cynthia Kerr, Lorrie Massey, and Sandra Sonia; 29 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Monica Owens, Esther Frost, Virginia Misiaszek, and Johanne Jipson; and her brothers, Donald Tallman, James Tallman, and Robert Tallman. Bernice was predeceased by her son, William; brothers, Joseph and Lyle Tallman; and her sister, Helen Vivyans; and three grandsons. A Committal Services was conducted on Saturday, December 8, 2001, at the James W. Davis Jr. Funeral Home, Madison.
