Lila Gertrude Bassett
Lila Gertrude Bassett, age 92, of Yale, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2007, in the Drumright Nursing Home, Drumright. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church, Yale. Burial will be held in Lawson Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale.
Lila was born to Tollef and Hilda (Brustad) Kvale Sept. 24, 1915, on the farm homestead northwest of Lake Mills, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in North Prairie Lutheran Church rural Lake Mills and attended country school then graduated from Lake Mills High School with the Class of 1933.
She married Pery Bassett Nov. 25, 1933, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union two children were born. The couple farmed the old homestead of her father and mother taking care of them both until they passed away. Lila was an active member of the church, a choir member, taught Sunday school, and active member of the ladies aid and sewing circle. She also enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
Besides helping her husband, she worked for Nerby Pharmacy until they moved to Orange, Calif. There she worked at Palm Pharmacy on Harbor Blvd. in Anaheim until they decided to come back to Oklahoma to be near the family. In the fall of 1989, they moved to Yale to be near the family. Lila is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Darrell and Sharlene Low of Yale; grandchildren and spouses, Tom and Cynde Low, Terry and Connie Low, Trace Gee, Tammy and Mike Prince, Jerry and Jeri D. Bassett, Scott Bassett, Daniel and Sara Bassett and Lonnie Bassett; 19 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Percy; son, Victor Bassett; brothers, Selmer, Rudolph and Arnold Kvale; sisters, Tina Storby and Myrtle Schultz and sister in law, Delores Trytten.
