Kathryn Bassett
Kathryn Bassett, 103, New Ulm, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, with Father Edward Ardolf presiding. Burial followed in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Schmucker Funeral Service, New Ulm, handled the arrangements.
Kathryn Ann (Greiner) Bassett, the daughter of Matthias and Ann (Knadel) Greiner was born June 22, 1901, in Stately Township, Brown County. As a young child, she moved to Comfrey with her parents where she attended school. Kathryn was employed for many years in New Ulm and retired from Oswald's Laundra in 1966. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, where she was active in the Council of Catholic Women and St. Mary's Altar Society. Kathryn loved her family and her church and enjoyed baking and gardening.
Survivors include her son, Patrick Bassett of New Ulm; daughters, Annette Johnson of Sleepy Eye, Loretta Wetzel and her husband Conrad of Plymouth, Sylvia Chase of Brooklyn Center and Joyce Steinberg and her husband Orville of New Ulm; 32 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Elaine Bassett of Milwaukee, Wis. and Dolly Bassett of New Ulm. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Joseph, Jerome and Kenneth Bassett; daughters, Kathleen Bassett and Patricia Schnobrich; grandchildren, Bruce Wetzel and Kathy Steinberg; great-grandson, James Bassett; sons-in-law, Raymond Schnobrich, Harold Chase, Arde Frederickson and Neil Johnson; sisters, Mary Kistler and Clara Shaw; and brother, George Greiner.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to the Way of the Cross.
