Raymond J. Bassett
Raymond John Bassett, 83, of Currie, Minn., and father of a Pontiac woman, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at his summer cabin on Lake Shetek.
His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Currie. Monsignor Paul Evers will officiate.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Currie.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. at Totzke Funeral Home, Slayton, Minn. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Another calling will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
He was born Aug. 18, 1919, at Mason Township, Murray County, Minnesota, the son of Peter and Lydia (LaPlante) Bassett. He married Esther Forsberg April 14, 1941, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Currie. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lenore ?Lori? Duffy of Pontiac and Jane (John) Weis of Currie; three sons, Herbert (Judy) Bassett of LaCrosse, Wis., Kenneth ?Mike? (Deb) Bassett of Currie, and Tim Bassett of Worthington, Minn.; two brothers, Gerald (Beatrice) Bassett of Currie and Colbert ?Corky? (Ardell) Bassett of Rushmore, Minn.; 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Three sisters, four brothers, one son and two infant children preceded him in death.
Mr. Bassett was a life member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
He grew up on the family farm near Currie, where he attended country school.
Mr. Bassett was engaged in farming. He rented seven different farms before 1959, when he purchased a farm located between Currie and Slayton. He retired in the early 1980s and continued operating Honeywagon until his illness a few months ago.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Bassett enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed the lake cottage, hunting, fishing and playing pinochle.
