  Notes	Springfield Republican, February 4, 1940 Easthampton Man, 21, To Face Girl’s Charge Roland Bessette Alleged to Have Assaulted His 16-Year-Old Companion Northampton, Feb. 3 – Roland Bessette, 21, of 20 Parsons street, Easthampton, was ordered held for the grand jury under heavy bail in District court today after he had pleaded guilty to drunkenness and assault with intent to commit rape. Judge John W. Mason set bail at $5200 on the two charges. Easthampton police allege Bessette was escorting a 16-year-old Easthampton girl to her home shortly after midnight last night when he dragged her into a clump of bushes at the corner of Berkeley street and Terrace view. Police were drawn to the scene as a result of the girl’s cries. The defendant was taken into custody less than an hour after the alleged attack, police said.
