- Marriage of Mina Bassett, Johnstown, New York
The marriage of Miss Mina Bassett of 305 West Montgomery Street, this
city, and Marcus A. Bennett of the town of Palatine took place last evening at
the parsonage of the Methodist church, the ceremony being performed by the
Rev. I. D. Van Valkenburg, pastor of the church. The couple were attended by
Mrs. Minnie Bassett and son, Merwyn, relatives of the bride. The newly married
couple left Tuesday evening on a short wedding trip following which they will
take up their residence in the town of Palatine, where the groom is engaged in
farming. Mrs. Bennett has a large circle of friends here who will extend their
heartiest good wishes for her future happiness in her new hom
Obituary of Mina Bassett
Mrs. Mina Bennett, aged 67, wife of Marcus Bennett, died last evening
(Dec.13, 1944) at 6:40 o'clock at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, where she
has been a patient since Saturday. Mrs. Bennett has been in declining health
for several years and has been confined to her home since February. She was
born September 28, 1877, in the town of Charleston, a daughter of Martin
Bassett and Mary Melissa Grosvenor Bassett. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett resided on a
farm in the Town of Mohawk for 29 years or until last June when, due to Mrs.
Bennett's health, they moved to this village (Fonda) and took up their
residence on Caydutta St. She is survived by her husband, one son, Roy
Bennett, Fort Plain; a grandson C.L. Bennett Duesler, Fort Plain; a
granddaughter, Mrs. Albert Scott, Fort Plain R.D.; two great grandchildren;
two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Johnson, Sloansville, and Mrs. Edna Brown, Johnstown;
two brothers, Floyd Bassett, Johnstown, Lyle Bassett, Syracuse; and several
nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the Jackson funeral home, Prospect
Street, where the funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2
o'clock. Rev. Fred R. Brown, pastor of the Fonda Methodist church, will
officiate. Interment will be in the family plot in the Charleston Four Corners
cemetery. The bearers were Mayor James Bergen, Lauren Smarup, Edson Veeder and
John H. Bowler. Included among the floral expressions of sympathy were pieces
from the employees of Royalknit Glove Corporation, Johnstown; Village Board of
Fonda, relatives and friends. Among those present at the services were Roy
Bennett and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Scott, Fort Plain; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bennett,
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hamm, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Wadsworth, and Merwyn Bassett,
Johnstown; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Bennett, Troy; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson and
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Johnson, Sloansville; Mrs. W.S. Geesler, Mrs. Martha L.
Dufel and Miss Wilhelmina Dufel, Tribes Hill; Mrs. Otis W. Burch, Oak Ridge;
Mrs. Maude Duesler and C.L. Duesler (grandson), Little Falls.
