James L. Bass Jr.
JAMES L. BASS Jr., 77, Lima, died at 9:50 p.m. June 13, 2002, at St. Rita's
Medical Center. He was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Elizabethton, Tenn., to James and Elizabeth Bass Sr., who preceded him in death. On Dec. 12, 1951, he married Odessa Bass, who died July 1, 1997. Mr. Bass retired in 1997 as a relief man on the assembly line from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant, after 40 years. He was a member of Mount Olive Church of God in Christ. He was a member of the United Auto Workers. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he was awarded four bronze stars. Survivors include four sons, Darren (Penny) Bass of Lima, James D. Bass of Elizabethton, Tenn., Dexter A. Bass of Mansfield and Terrance (Vanassa) Bass of Cincinnati; two daughters, Diane (Laval) Malachi of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Donna (LeTroy) McFadden of Leesburg, Va.; a sister, Edna Forney of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Russel) Harris of Powell, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Deborah McFadden, Chavon McFadden, Darren Bass, Taylor Bass, Rodney Bass, Shane Coomes, Alexis Bass and Jazmne Bass; and a great-grandchild, Cory McFadden. He was preceded in death by a son, James Bass Jr.; and a daughter, Deborah Mae Bass. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Olive Church of God in Christ. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Siferd Funeral Homes, Westwood Chapel.
