Donald Eugene Bass
Donald Eugene Bass, 95, of Rogers, Ark., died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at his home. He was born July 12, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., to Peter Bass and Anonet Prince Bass.
He was the first employee of the Testor Corp. and helped develop it into a multinational corporation. He powered a three-wheeled car with a washing machine engine and invented a balsa wood slicer that revolutionized the balsa processing industry. He designed and built several boats for his family, including a trimaran sailboat.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Priscilla Stroh Bass; and a brother, Willard Bass.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Jean Bowers of Normal, Ill., and Kathleen Ray Cole of Wellsville, Mo.; a sister, Carolyn O'Berne of Riverdale, N.J.; three grandchildren, Amy Pawlik and her husband Brian Pawlik, Rebecca Dean and her husband Harlan Dean, and Kristina Rowe and her husband Jason Rowe; and a great-granddaughter, Kendra Mackey.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Rollins Funeral Chapel in Rogers with the Rev. Dave Hunter.
Burial will be at the Rogers City Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers.
