Lowell H. Bessette

Lowell H. "Pete" Bessette, age 92, U.S. Navy veteran, a lifelong resident of Plainfield, IL, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. He was born at home on June 16, 1931, in Plainfield.
Beloved husband of Donna M. Bessette (nee Rutten), whom he married September 11, 1954, loving father to eight children: Thomas Bessette of Surprise, AZ, Julie (Keith) Van Duyne of Wilmington, IL, David (Debra) Bessette of Hayward, WI, Michelle (Stephen) Folk of Lebanon, ME, Gaylene (Peter) Metrou of Yorkville, IL, Scott (Anissa) Bessette of Steamboat Springs, CO and Kirsten (Ian) Adam of Naperville, IL, adored grandfather of twenty and great-grandfather of twenty-three, devoted son of the late Irving and Frances (nee Herbert) Bessette, dear brother of the late Irving "Sonny" (the late Norma) Bessette and dear brother of the late Jacqueline (the late Robert) Owens, brother-in-law, fond uncle, and friend of many.
Pete grew up in Plainfield, was a 1950 graduate of Plainfield High School and served in the U.S. Navy in the early 1950's, stationed in Jacksonville, FL. During his work career, Pete was employed by Hobson Plastering, Lisle IL, founded Bessette Aircraft Sales, Plainfield, IL, Brown and Lambrecht Earthmovers, New Lenox, IL, and Railoc Company, Inc., Plainfield, IL. Pete later co-owned Mekco Manufacturing Inc. in Cleveland, WI, retiring in 1997.
Pete was a devout Catholic and dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an extraordinary corporate pilot with over 14,000 hours, an expert marksman, an avid fisherman and hunter, an enthusiastic fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, gun collecting, and defender of our 2nd Amendment.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 14, 2023, 10:30 AM at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield. Interment will follow at St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield, IL.
