      Henry K. Bass Jr.

      Henry K. Bass, Jr. passed away May 17th after a brief bout with pneumonia.
      Born in Abilene to Henry K. & Shirley M. (nee Gage) Bass, Sr., Feb. 20, 1929, Henry worked at various jobs including ?soda jerk? at the drug store that bore the family name. He graduated from Abilene High School, then studied Chemical Engineering at Texas A & M as a member of the Corps and the Fighting Texas Aggie Band. After duty in the occupational Army of Germany (Chemical Corps), he returned to A & M for his MS in Chemical Engineering in 1956.
      Following work as a research engineer at The Texas Co (Texaco) Henry joined IBM to work in the field of Process Control, work which earned him an Outstanding Contribution Award. With IBM, Henry also worked in Produce Forecasting in Boca Raton, FL, Atlanta, GA, and Paris, France. He served as a Senior Systems Engineer in Baton Rouge, LA and retired from IBM in Irving, TX as a Senior Market Support Representative in the Engineering/Scientific National Support Center after 29 years with the company. During these years he also served nearly 30 years in the Army Reserves attaining the rank of Colonel.
      Following his retirement from IBM, he and his wife moved from Irving to Abilene. Here he served on the Abilene Philharmonic Board and the Board of Trustees of St. Paul?s United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the fellowship of the Abilene Texas Aggie Club, classical symphony and organ music, and motorcycles.
      He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Harriet Jane (nee Jones)), daughter of Morgan (dec.) and Mary Whatley Jones of Abilene. Also surviving his death are his two sons, Henry Morgan Bass and Charles Frederick Bass ? both living in Virginia ? and two grandsons ages five and two.
      The family will be at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4, and at 1568 Tanglewood Road Sunday evening from 5-7. Services will be Monday, May 21. Interment will be at the Masonic Cemetery, 10:00 A.M. Memorial services will occur at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul?s UMC, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
      In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Abilene Philharmonic Association, the St. Paul United Methodist Church Television fund, or to a charitable organization of the donor?s choosing.
