      February 8, 1928 ? December 16, 2019

BROOKLYN ? Bernard O. Bessette, age 91, passed peacefully at his home in Brooklyn, CT on December 16, 2019. He was a lifelong resident of South Street in the house he built from the ground up with his wife Phyllis who predeceased him in 2003.

Born on South Street in February of 1928 to Marie (Labarre) and Joseph Bessette, Bernie will be missed by his son, Gary and his wife Laurie, his daughter Judy and her husband Jean-Pierre, and his daughter Bonnie, nine grandchildren Stefanie, Diana, Melissa, Brandon, Jaime, Neal, Jesse, Stuart, and Jackson, his sister in law Sally, his niece Terry and nephews Ollie, Doug and Craig, and seven great grandchildren.

Bernie will also be greatly missed by a multitude of friends both in Vermont and Connecticut, including his faithful companions Joan and Leroy and his best friends Harry, Bucky and Ed.
Bernie attended school in E. Brooklyn and Ellis Technical High School. He then went on to work in his brother Oliver?s music store where he met Phyllis Newcombe, whom he married in 1950. He went to work for O?Connor Music in 1956 until retirement.

Not one to be idle for long, Bernie spent his retirement traveling the world with loved ones, working with his hands, riding snowmobiles and 4-wheelers, going on legendary hunting trips, golfing, making constant improvements on his homes in Connecticut and Vermont, and helping everyone that asked with whatever he could. He was a lifetime member of the Killingly Rifle Club and the Elks.

Bernie was truly gifted with an abundance of common sense and the ability to find a solution to fix almost every problem imaginable. He could see a pile of lumber or a grove of pine trees and turn it into a work of art. Bernie had a knack of turning any experience into a story that will bring you to tears through laughter.

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday December 29, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the American Legion Post 91, 66 Prospect St. Moosup CT.
