7 Feb 1880: "On the 20th of last month Robert Claxon, who for some months has been about town and who formerly lived here, hired at R. B. Powell's livery stable, James T. Fisher's black mare for ten days, saying that he wanted to go to Moorfield, Ind., and would return by the time named. On last Saturday twelve days having passed without a return of the mare, Mr. Powell in company with Joseph Myrick, set out to hunt her. They first went to Madison, where they found her in the livery stable of R. R. Rea who had purchased her two or three days previously from Claxon, paying him $30 and a gold watch. Mr. Powell made affidavit as to the ownership of the animal, gave bond and brought her home. Claxon has not been found and Mr. Rea is minus his money and watch."
