- Bula Dancy Charles became seriously ill in 1907, while the Tom Charles family was living in Belleville, Kansas. Doctors advised that she go to a warmer, dryer climate, and the family moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico, in the
fall of that year. In spite of this, Bula's health declined. She died the following August.
Among the relatives who helped out during Bula's illness was her niece, and namesake, Bula Ward, daughter of Frances Sibyl Dancy and John Reeves Ward. The children were fond of their cousin Bula, so were not
disappointed when she returned to New Mexico from Kansas to marry their father, Tom. Bula was a loving mother to her aunt's four children, as well as the two sons born to her in New Mexico.
